Criminal Justice Reform in North Carolina

In 2017, North Carolina legislators including Senator Ford passed Raise the Age legislation to prevent juveniles under the age of 18 from being prosecuted as adults. He supports Ban the Box initiative to direct most state agencies to move the question regarding criminal history from the initial stages of job applications so they may be fairly considered for state employment. Senator Ford has also been a strong voice in the General Assembly fighting for reform of police body cameras for more accountability and transparency. With the passage of HB 972 which will allow the release of police dash and body camera video.
